Williams Formula 1 team accelerates digital transformation

Michael Hill | 03/18/2025

Atlassian Williams Racing, the Formula 1 team, is accelerating its digital transformation in a new partnership with global technology consulting and service company Brillio.

Under the partnership, Brillio will work exclusively to support digital transformation initiatives within the Atlassian Williams Racing team. Brillio will also become an official data and artificial intelligence (AI) services partner to Williams.

Over the term of the agreement, Williams will be looking to utilize this expertise in its pursuit of future World Championship success, the firm stated. The Formula 1 season kicked off last weekend with the Australian Grand Prix.

Brillio will play a pivotal role in Willaims’ digital transformation

“Brillio will play a pivotal role in accelerating the transformation of Atlassian Williams Racing,” said Sorin Cheran, chief information and analytics officer. Brillio’s agility, focus on excellence and challenger mindset make them the ideal partner for Williams, with its expertise in high-performance data engineering crucial to gaining a competitive advantage on and off track, Cheran added.

“Brillio’s expertise in harnessing cutting-edge technologies to unleash potential and performance align perfectly with our vision for the future as we transform in all areas to return to winning ways,” said James Vowles, team principal. “Brillio joins a growing roster of major global companies who believe in our destination and want to contribute on our journey.”

Willaims-Brillio partnership is about more than tech

The partnership will also look to create a digital-first legacy by elevating Brillio’s global Corporate Social Responsibility initiative, Bringing Smiles, which is focused on fostering science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) education and career development among underserved children to prepare them for a digital-first and disruptive world.

STEM education is a major focus for Atlassian Williams Racing, which runs a schools outreach program that will bring more than 10,000 children to its Grove HQ free of charge to introduce them to careers in STEM through the lens of motorsport.

“Brillio is excited to be part of Atlassian Williams Racing as it continues its journey back to the top,” said Raj Mamodia, founder and CEO of Brillio. “We have a track record of providing competitive advantage to the companies we work with. At Brillio, we believe high-performance engineering, data and AI are the keys to unlocking the next era of motorsport excellence.”

Brillio’s partnership with Atlassian Williams Racing goes beyond technology and is about a relentless challenger mindset to push boundaries, redefine speed and accelerate innovation, Mamodia concluded.

Formula E invests in generative AI and sustainability

Earlier this year, Formula E – the electric car motorsport equivalent of Formula 1 – revealed plans to use generative AI to revolutionize driver performance analysis, delivering personalized insights and real-time feedback. Formula E is collaborating with Google Cloud in a new multi-year AI and technology partnership. Transformational data insights will be game-changing for enhancing driver skill and access to top-tier driver coaching, summarizing vast amounts of car and track data that can support a driver’s racing style and tire and energy strategies, Formula E stated.

Last month, Formula E unveiled the sustainability initiatives at the heart of its Jeddah E-Prix, which was powered by renewable energy and significant waste management systems.

“Sustainability is in our DNA and at the heart of decision-making and with the 2025 Jeddah E-Prix this is no different,” commented Julia Pallé, VP of sustainability at Formula E. “As the number one ESG sport on the planet, we pride ourselves on delivering impactful programs and initiatives that benefit the people in our host communities and the wider environment where we race.”
