As a senior data scientist at the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS), Morgan Stuart works closely with the organ transplant community to understand their challenges, plan research projects and apply data science and engineering to develop real-world solutions. He’s a seasoned technologist, with prior work experience that spans health, finance and cyber security domains, including applications in embedded systems, distributed computing and predictive modeling. At UNOS, one of Morgan’s key projects is Predictive Analytics, a tool developed to enable transplant teams to make informed decisions about the impacts of accepting or declining an organ offer. He is also engaged in early-stage development of Transplant Vision (TxVx) from UNOS Labs, a smartphone application that leverages augmented reality technology to scan and digitally reconstruct recovered kidneys to enable high quality three-dimensional image-sharing and other evaluation measurements for long-distance assessment of organs for transplant. Morgan also works closely with a team at Microsoft AI for Good to mine novel insights into recipient outcomes from decades of unstructured transplant data. Prior to joining UNOS in 2020, Morgan worked at Genworth Financial, helping to establish their data science team and apply predictive modeling to underwriting, fraud detection, and marketing. During this same time, Morgan also developed cyber risk models as a consultant and was highly active in Richmond Virginia’s volunteer maker community. Morgan earned an MS in computer engineering and a Ph.D. in computer science from the Virginia Commonwealth University College of Engineering.
