Pirelli’s Pier Paolo Tamma reflects on tire giant’s digital transformation journey

Pirelli’s chief digital officer Pier Paolo Tamma shone a light on the multinational tire manufacturer’s digital transformation progress as it seeks to use data, digital ecosystems and AI to enhance data-driven decision-making. Speaking to Forbes, Tamma explained that Pirelli’s digital transformation challenge was to use a new digital platform that could scale to meet its complex integrated business planning process. “Implementing a supply chain planning solution that could scale up to solve such a massive problem was anything but straightforward, and success was far from guaranteed,” he said.

The digital transformation/supply chain project began back in 2020 and has three phases, Tamma added. The first phase, which is now complete, supported strategic planning. The second phase, currently under way, covers tactical planning, while the third phase involves implementing detailed factory scheduling. This will be completed by the end of the year, according to Tamma.
