PEX Network: Can you tell us more about your experience with operational excellence? Are there any success stories you would like to share?
Gyte Gedvilaite-Hansen: I have been working with automation and digitalization for three and a half years. During that time I have continuously strived toward developing maturity in how we work with automation and raising digital dexterity in the whole organization.
Compared to the early days, employees in our organization are now used to working along with bots. They understand what type of work can be delegated to them, while human employees can focus on much more creative and unusual tasks.
Moreover, we have a growing group of people who were previously performing manual tasks and now are working as citizen developers and automating those tasks for their teams. Some of them even continue their journey and become professional developers.
PEX Network: What are the biggest OPEX trends you are seeing at the moment?
GGH: I believe one of the biggest trends at the moment is the democratization of IT development. Simple automations of manual work can now be done by non-IT employees using low or no-code solutions, reducing the need of business’ to train or hire experienced developers.

PEX Network: What is your advice for any organizations looking to begin their own OPEX journey?
GGH: I would advise organizations to focus on the benefit they hope to achieve from the very beginning. This is important to ensure that you prioritize initiatives that bring real and measurable value.
Initiatives like these will be offer some great examples that demonstrate a proof of concept to inspire others and will ultimately help with scaling in the future.
PEX Network: What do you hope viewers will take away from your session at PEX Live: OPEX Week 2022?
GGH: The session will offer practical, implementable inspiration on how automation can accelerate operational excellence. I will discuss how we can learn from our mistakes, so that we do not need to make them again.
