Celonis and NEC integrate generative AI and process intelligence

Process mining vendor Celonis and NEC Corporation announced a proof of concept to integrate NEC’s high-performance Japanese language generative AI with Celonis’ process intelligence platform. This proof of concept is being conducted as part of a strategic partnership announced in 2023 and makes NEC the first Japanese company to work on the integration of generative AI and process intelligence, according to a press release. Building on initial success, the companies are further integrating NEC’s generative AI with Celonis’ process mining technology, allowing users without process mining expertise to visualize and analyze business processes through natural language conversations, without the need to read large amounts of text.

“The strategic partnership between NEC and Celonis continues to deliver tremendous value for our customers in Japan,” commented Bastian Nominacher, co-founder and Co-CEO of Celonis. “Combining NEC’s generative AI and Celonis’ process intelligence will empower more people to identify process optimization opportunities and accelerate business transformation.”

IDC assesses IDP vendor market in the generative AI era

Analyst and research firm IDC published the Worldwide Unstructured Intelligent Document Processing Software 2024 Vendor Assessment, exploring quantitative and qualitative characteristics that explain key methods for success and differentiation within the IDP market. The IDC MarketScape covers a variety of vendors participating in the unstructured IDP space, with evaluation based on a framework that assesses vendors relative to the criteria/one another and highlights the factors expected to be the most influential for success in the market.

“Now that we are squarely in the generative AI era, IDC has seen a significant evolution in the capabilities that IDP software vendors are building and implementing to address the challenge of processing unstructured document use cases,” said Matt Arcaro, research director, computer vision AI tools and technology at IDC. “Although the underlying LLM technology underpinning these IDP offerings remains rather nascent, the evaluated vendors have been aggressively extending their existing offerings or launching entirely new IDP software products to take advantage of the capabilities of frontier generative AI models and labs.
